About us:

Newton Stewart Triathlon Club is a newly formed club based at the Merrick Leisure Centre in Newton Stewart. Adults and children train together in the three triathlon disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. Our club has a family emphasis, meaning that adults and children can train together - a great thing when adults and children are so often kept apart through work and other commitments. We meet several times a week for different training sessions. We are affiliated to Triathlon Scotland and have 6 coaches trained up to Level 1 SQA standard.

It is early days for us in the club, so training sessions are still evolving. Whether you are an individual who is keen to participate in the sport or one of several in a family, you are welcome to come along to a session and see for yourself. Sessions are suitable for those who just want to keep fit as well as those who wish to compete.

Our aims:

We aim to promote enjoyment and participation of members in the sport of triathlon, and of its component parts of swimming, cycling and running.
Here is some useful information for those who are considering joining the club:
We are a family club, and all club sessions are open to all ages (age 8 to 100).

Weekly sessions will be as follows, from October 2017 to Spring 2018:

MONDAYS: Bike turbo sessions, led by Ted, at 3b gym in Port William. 7pm start. Bring your own turbo and bike.
TUESDAYS: Although not part of the Tri Club, we recommend that adult runners or confident kids (preferably with a supervising parent) can run with the Galloway Harriers - (see their Facebook page) 6.30pm start, usually in Newton Stewart but in Stranraer running track on the last Tuesday of the month and in the Stewartry on the first Tuesday.
FRIDAYS: Swimming sessions at the Merrick Pool. 6.30-7.30pm for children and slower adults, and 7.30-8.30pm for faster swimmers. New swimmers are required to be able to swim a minimum of 50m. The normal pool fee should be paid to the coach (not reception).
SATURDAYS: Cyclocross training at either Port William or Kirroughtree starting at 2pm. Some Saturdays may be cancelled due to people competing in events.

There are also informal bike rides that take place among club members. These may be advertised on Facebook but are not classified as formal coached sessions and therefore are to not subject to the club welfare guidelines or club insurance.
All these sessions mentioned above are subject to change. You are advised to check the Facebook page for any last minute changes.
Training sessions are open to members only, although people can try out 2 sessions first before they decide to join the club. Click here for the membership form.
